Most stores still use Perchloroethylene, or perc, the dominant chemical solvent used in drycleaning. it has been deemed harmful to humans if not processed correctly. It is is a clear, colorless liquid that has a sharp odor and evaporates quickly. It is an effective cleaning solvent and is used by most professional drycleaners. Perc usually does not cause clothes to shrink, nor dyes to bleed. Perc is not flammable, unlike solvents commonly used to clean clothes in the 1930's and '40's. Since perc can be reused, it is a cost-effective and efficient solvent for cleaning clothes. Perc is also a toxic chemical with both human health and environmental concerns.  Click here for History of Dry Cleaning.
We use DF-2000 Fluid a Hydro Carbon solvent, when used in conjunction with properly designed machinery, cleaning processes and additives, can provide cleaning performance comparable to perc and better than any other alternative currently available. There is no harmful effects to humans or the environment.
Some clothing needs to be treated with spotting solvents; sometimes by steam jet or by soaking in special stain remover liquids before garments are washed or dry cleaned. Also, garments stored in soiled condition for a long time are difficult to bring back to their original color and texture. Natural fibers such as wool, cotton, and silk of lighter colors should not be left in dirty or soiled condition for long amounts of time as they absorb dirt in their texture and are unlikely to be restored to their original color and finish. Reacting to stains quickly can help the success rate to full recovery. If unsure what to do, please call us or click on this link.
